Students will also learn the different styles of resumes (functional, chronological, combination and curriculum vitae). A determination of a match between styles, goals and job market will be made.
Assignment # 1: Students will outline their education, work and personal history. They will investigate the job market in their area and develop a job goal.
We will discuss the various headings and the information that goes under each one. Students will determine what is pertinent about their background, according to their goals, to put on the resume. They will learn to write their resume in the "assumed I" voice and to use action words.
Assignment # 2: Students will write their resumes.
A discussion about the resume writing process and a critique will provide insight into the understanding students have gained.
Guidelines on how to post an on-line resume and to submit paper copy will be given as well as suggestions on paper type and color and fonts.
